Society lobby and lift care: a monthly plan for committees
By MIB Care Team · Last reviewed 23 October 2026 · 5 min read
Short answer: A well-kept society runs on a written schedule: lobby floors and lift cabins daily, staircases and glass weekly, deep cleaning of lobby walls, lights and drains monthly, and water tanks and a full common-area restoration at least twice a year. Put the plan on the notice board and name who is responsible for each task.
The plan at a glance
| How often | Tasks |
|---|---|
| Daily | Sweep and mop the lobby and entrance. Wipe lift buttons, handrails and door handles. Clean the lift cabin floor and mirror. Empty and segregate common bins. |
| Weekly | Wash staircases. Clean the lobby glass and main door. Wipe letterboxes and notice boards. Clean the security cabin. |
| Monthly | Wipe lobby walls and switchboards. Dust lights and fans. Clean railings. Flush common drains. Check the terrace and parking for water pooling. |
| Quarterly | Deep clean lift cabin panels and door tracks. Clean meter rooms and duct areas (with the lift and electrical vendors' guidance). |
| Twice a year | Clean overhead and underground water tanks. Clear terrace drains before June and after the monsoon. Restore common areas before Diwali. |
Making the plan work
- Put it in writing. Pin the schedule on the notice board and share it on the society WhatsApp group.
- Name an owner for each task. Housekeeping staff, the security team or an outside agency.
- Give the right tools. Flat mops, microfibre cloths, a squeegee for glass and colour-coded bins.
- Check weekly. One committee member walks the common areas once a week with the checklist.
- Book a deep restoration twice a year. Daily staff keep things tidy; a professional team restores what daily cleaning cannot reach.
Lifts need extra care
Lift buttons and handrails are touched by every resident, so wipe them every day with a disinfectant cloth. Never spray liquid into button panels or door tracks. Leave inspection and cleaning of the lift pit and machine room to your lift maintenance company.
Waste segregation in common areas
Place three clearly labelled bins on each floor or at the collection point: wet, dry and hazardous (such as batteries, bulbs and medicines). Segregated waste is easier for municipal collection and keeps common areas cleaner and odour-free.
